Basic controls

----

Ultimate Cube
Click on a side to select all the cubes on that side, drag if you want to add more slices of the cube to the selection, then release the mouse button. Now rotate the selected cubes by moving the mouse, then click again to finish the move.

Hold control and move the mouse to rotate the cube, or use the right mouse button. (If you're using USB Overdrive, the right mouse button doesn't seem to work unless you're using full-screen mode.)

Additional controls

----

Command/Apple click on a face to select the face on the opposite side of the one you clicked...this saves having to rotate the cube to get at it. Or you can use the middle mouse button. (Again, this may not work unless you’re in full-screen mode.)

You can use the keyboard to rotate the cube instead: arrow keys or WSAD.

The following commands do the same thing as the icons:

T: Toggle moves/timer display

N: Make a new puzzle (scramble)

R: Reset cube to an unscrambled state

2-9: Make cubes of sizes 2x2x2 through 9x9x9 (this also resets the cube)

Ultimate Cube
Press [ and ], or < and >, to change the sensitivity for rotating the cube.

Hold shift while pressing N or clicking the scramble icon to make the scrambling go slower so you can see it happening. If you get bored watching it, let go and the rest of the scrambling will be done instantly.

Hold alt/option while pressing N to scramble the cube just a little bit. This is for when you don’t want much of a challenge. You can hold down shift when doing this too.

Note: some graphics cards won't show the shadows. This is only cosmetic and doesn't affect the game.

Enjoy!

This is a Dashboard widget that simulates Rubik’s Cube-type puzzles. The aim is to scramble the cube and then try to make all sides the same color by rotating various segments. The icons, from top to bottom, do these things:

  1. Toggle the timer display on and off

  2. Scramble the cube

  3. Reset the cube

  4. Make cubes of sizes 2x2x2 through 9x9x9 (good luck with that one!)

The small icons in the bottom-right are for entering full-screen mode (press Esc to go back to normal mode), and flipping the widget over to the back (which resets the cube when you return to the front).

The moves/time display only updates after the cube is scrambled by clicking on the appropriate button or pressing the scramble key, which is also the only way to get a reward for unscrambling the cube—manually scrambling the cube yourself won’t work, sorry! But you can just play around with it that way if you like.

The controls are summarized on the back of the widget, and are explained in more detail below:
